The following is common terminology to
structural fire firefighters. There are additional definitions for emergency
medical terminology, building construction, arson investigation and
hazardous materials and more. Please note that some definitions have more

X-rays
|
Highly penetrating ionizing radiations
similar to gamma rays that are produced by bombarding a metal target
with fast electrons in a vacuum tube, as occurs in an X-ray machine.
X-rays are electromagnetic radiation at wavelengths shorter than those
of visible light. |

Yard hydrant
|
Similar to all other fire hydrants; they
derive their name from being located in the yard of an industrial
complex and are installed for private fire protection. |

|
|
Zones |
A definite region or area distinguished
from adjacent regions by some special quality or condition. Separation
of the warm, hot, and cold zones during an incident can be physical
(barriers), geographical, or the use of temporary isolation barriers
(colored tape). |

Zoning |
A governmental process and specification
which limits the use of a property e.g. single family use, high rise
residential use, industrial use, etc. Zoning laws may limit where you
can locate a structure. Also see building codes. |
